Lyons finish regular seasons by hosting four-school Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's and women's swimming & diving teams wrapped up their regular seasons on Saturday after hosting a two-day, non-scoring invitational in Balfour Natatorium featuring New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schools Clark University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe Tufts University.

Freshman diver Charlie Maier (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) broke a pair of school records during the one- and three-meter events.  In the 11-dive event for one meter, Maier was the runner up with 393.80 points.  Off the three-meter springboard, he also placed second with 395.45 points. 

Senior Jonathan Gold (West Harrison, N.Y./Fordham Prep), who was the former record holder in both events, placed fourth in each competition, while freshman Taylor Wright-Sanson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs) came in fifth in both.

Senior Eddie Gillie (Haverhill, Mass./Saint John's Prep) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:40.50, while seniors Sam Dean-Lee (Rocky Hill, Conn./Xavier) and Ben Sabol (Saint Petersburg, Fla./Shorecrest Prep), sophomore Sam Neill (Ludlow, Mass./Belchertown) and freshman Emerson Jenkins (Kansas City, Mo./Pembroke Hill School) came in fourth during the 400-yard free relay.

Jenkins placed fifth in the 50-yard free event and joined Sabol, senior Zach Fichman-Klein (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and freshman Nick Oliveri (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) for a fifth-place result in the 200-yard free relay.

Senior Nicole Zais (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) led the women by figuring in three event victories, including sweeping the 100- and 200-yard breaststrokes in 1:07.29 and 2:30.09, respectively.  She also sided with classmates Sara Hollar (La Crescenta, Calif./Flintridge Prep) and Dania Piscetta (Belmont, N.H./Belmont) and sophomore Elle Van Cott (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) on the victorious 400-yard medley relay team that finished in 4:09.20.

Sophomore Caroline Isaacs (San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitt) touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle race in 11:06.39.  Piscetta was the runner up in the 400-yard individual medley, as were the 200-yard medley and 400-yard free relay teams.  Piscetta, Zais and senior Stephany Perkins (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) contributed to both relays.  Hollar swam a leg of the 400-yard free relay, as did sophomore Dana Auger (Milford, Mass./Milford) in the 200-yard medley relay.

Auger and senior Emma Chaiken (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke and one-meter dive events, respectively.  Junior Sarah Miller (Madison, N.J./Madison) took fourth in the 200-yard breast, classmate Alexandra Wilson (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) came in fourth during the one-meter dive, while Perkins, Piscetta, Zais and senior Samantha Farrell (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) finished fourth in the 200-yard free relay.  Wilson was fifth in the three-meter dive.

Up next for the squads are their respective NEWMAC Championships.  The women compete at Mount Holyoke College from February 18-20, while the men are at MIT the following weekend.
