NORTON, Mass. - Three Wheaton College women's tennis players picked up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) singles and doubles awards for the week ending on Sunday, September 5.
Seniors Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, Calif./Sage Hill School) and Catherine Teague (Manchester, N.H./Central) continued to rack up honors, as the regionally-ranked tandem was named NEWMAC Doubles Co-Team of the Week, while freshman Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) was tabbed NEWMAC Singles Co-Player of the Week.
Geocaris and Teague, who are ranked 15th in the Northeast by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), drew doubles accolades for the eighth time in their decorated careers. During a 9-0 triumph over 2010 NCAA Tournament team Simmons College in Wheaton's lone match of the week, the duo posted an 8-3 victory from the top spot while beginning their fourth season as doubles partners.
Earning her first award with the Lyons, Cooke recorded a 6-0, 6-0 shutout from the third position during her Wheaton debut. She also won her doubles match in the second slot.
Ranked 10th in the region, the Lyons open their NEWMAC schedule on Saturday with a home match against Clark University at 1:00 p.m.
