NORTON, Mass.- Wheaton College women's tennis junior Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) and sophomore Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) swept the weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) singles and doubles awards on Monday.
Marlowe was named NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week for the first time in her career, while she and Cooke earned doubles team of the week for the second time this fall and third time overall.
Marlowe extended this season's dual-match winning streak to seven following her three straight-set victories at second singles during Wheaton's 3-0 week. In Tuesday's 6-3 win over previously unbeaten Babson College, Marlowe won 6-2, 6-1. She then allowed just two games on Saturday in the Lyons' 9-0 sweep at Smith College before blanking her Colby College opponent on Sunday during Wheaton's 5-4 win.
Cooke and Marlowe remained undefeated through seven matches this season, as the tandem notched a 3-0 mark from the top doubles position. The Lyon duo turned in an 8-3 victory over a Babson twosome, surrendered just one game against their Smith counterparts and capped the weekend with an 8-3 triumph over a Colby tandem.
Wheaton faces its stiffest test of the season tomorrow afternoon, when the Lyons host defending champion Wellesley College at 4:00 p.m. The teams have combined to win the last eight NEWMAC regular season and tournament titles.
