Lyons post a 2-0 week overall
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College senior co-captain Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week.
Cooke only lost two games en route to a perfect 2-0 week at No. 2 singles against Nichols and Mount Holyoke. Cooke also went 2-0 in doubles action with junior co-captain Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View).
Cooke defeated Nichols senior captain Anna Dyakiv (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) by a score of 6-1, 6-0 and teamed up with Marlowe for an 8-2 decision at No.1 doubles as the Lyons claimed a 9-0 victory over the Bison.
Against Mount Holyoke, Cooke downed Maya Sayarath (St. Johnsbury, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy), 6-0, 6-1, in singles play, while Cooke and Marlowe breezed to an 8-1 decision in No.1 doubles versus AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa./Harrisburg Academy) and Eman Malik (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar School).
Cooke, who has now earned NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week honors four times in her career, is 64-8 overall in singles play in a Wheaton uniform.
The Lyons (3-0) travel to Springfield College on Saturday for a conference match at 1 p.m.
