Lyons duo claims fifth-career Doubles Team of the Week honor
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College women's tennis senior co-captain Lyndsay Cooke (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield Christian) has been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week. Cooke also joins junior co-captain Alexandra Marlowe (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) as the conference's selection for Doubles Team of the Week.
Cooke picks up her fifth-career NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week honor after going 2-0 overall last week. Cooke won her first match against Clark at No. 1 and her second match versus Colby at No. 2, while helping the Lyons to a 2-0 week overall.
In doubles play, Cooke and Marlowe teamed up for a 2-0 week overall at No.1 only dropping three games total during that stretch. The duo guided the Lyons to a 2-0 week overall going a combined 5-0 among singles and doubles play.
Cooke and Marlowe have earned five NEWMAC Doubles Team of the Week honors, including this week's award. Both players were also recognized on Sept. 3, 2013, Sept. 3, 2012, Oct. 8, 2012 and Oct. 10, 2011 for their play on the court as a tandem.
Third-seeded Wheaton (9-2, 6-2 NEWMAC) will host sixth-seeded Springfield College (6-5, 3-5 NEWMAC) on Wednesday, October 23 in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Clark Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Prior to their NEWMAC Tournament match, select members of the Lyons' squad will compete in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITTS) beginning this Friday.
