Wheaton Takes Down Mount Holyoke 5-4 to Move on in NEWMAC Tournament

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • First-year Allison Burton claimed the victory for Wheaton with a battle at the No. 5 singles spot. Madison Rosen took on Burton, winning the opening set 6-3, but Burton battled back taking the final two sets 6-4, 6-0 to seal the victory for Wheaton.  
  • The day started with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Ines de Bracamonte and Isabelle Garvanne taking down Ching-Ching Huang and Ishita Tibrewal
  • Wheaton made it 2-0 in its favor with a win at the No. 3 spot with Burton and Harley Swainston edging out Joy Maran and Rosen 8-6. 
  • Leading 2-1, Wheaton extended its lead with Garvanne picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 2 singles spot, while de Bracamonte earned Wheaton another point with a 6-3, 6-2 win. 

UP NEXT: Women's tennis returns to action on Tuesday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. at No. 1 MIT (15-2, 8-0 NEWMAC). The appearance will be the Lyons first in the semifinals since 2013-14.
