Women's Tennis Falls to MIT in NEWMAC Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Wheaton College women's tennis team traveled to MIT Tuesday evening for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament Semifinal action in the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. The Engineers, who are the top-ranked team in the NEWMAC and 19th in the country, advance to the championship match after defeating the Lyons 5-0. 

Wheaton fell behind early with MIT earning a clean sweep in doubles, starting with an 8-2 win in the three spot. Allison Burton and Miriam Galindo Cerrada fell in No. 2 doubles, before Ines de Bracamonte and Isabelle Garvanne suffered an 8-4 loss in the top spot. 

In singles action, the Engineers earned the victory after picking up wins in the two and three spots. 

At No. 1, de Bracamonte took a 6-4 first set from MIT's Rickeman and at No. 4, Rakocevic led Connor O'Keefe 6-2, 4-1 at the time of the clinching point.
