First-year collects first career weekly award
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College first-year Abby Epplett (Uxbridge, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Track Rookie of the Week.
At the Bates Invitational last Saturday, Epplett captured first place honors in the 600-meter run for the second consecutive week with a time of 1:40.37. Epplett surpassed her previous winning time and seed time by more than three seconds.
Epplett also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 16-feet and 6.50-inches and aided Wheaton's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of sophomore All-American Kelly Ludew (Lebanon, N.H./Lebanon), first-year Elizabeth Akindolie (Providence, R.I./Classical) and sophomore Emily Gustavson (Sturbridge, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) to a first place finish in 4:09.97. The Lyons winning time was nearly ten seconds better than the rest of the field.
Nationally, Wheaton's 4x400 relay time previously mentioned ranks No. 22 in the country just behind UMass Dartmouth (4:09.26) and John Hopkins (4:09.35).
Epplett and the Lyons return to action this Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.
