Historic day for Walker at the Tufts National Qualifier

The Lyons were led by sophomore Margaret Walker who won the preliminary round of the 60-meter dash in 7.75 and qualified for the final. She was quickly followed by senior teammate Briana Gausland who ran 7.86 finishing 3rd overall in the preliminary round also qualifying for the final. 

In the final, Margaret Walker finished 2nd overall running a personal best time of 7.74 right behind her was teammate Briana Gausland also running a personal best time of 7.83 finishing in 3rd. 

Walker's time of 7.74 is just .01 seconds off of the school record held by Amanda Claflin set in 2013 in a time of 7.73. Walker is now 3rd all-time in Wheaton College history in the event. She also currently sits 20th overall in the country in the 60-meter dash. 

In the 60-meter hurdles sophomore, Nina Schofield finished 3rd overall in the preliminary round running a time of 9.26, she was followed by junior Ellen Shaw finishing in 4th running a time of 9.29, and sophomore Hannah Wescott ran a time of 9.46 finishing in 8th overall. All three women qualified for the final. 

In the 60-meter hurdle finals, Nina Schofield finished 3rd overall running a time of 9.28, Ellen Shaw finished 5th overall running a time of 9.30, and Hannah Wescott finished 7th overall running a time of 9.58. 

In the 400 meters, sophomore Alexandra Case finished 8th overall running a personal best time of 1:01.17. 

Case doubled back in the 200 meters finishing again in 8th with a time of 26.53 and she was joined by teammate Elizabeth Matre running a time of 27.60. 

Next up for the Lyons will be the NCAA Division III Championships. 

The NCAA takes the top 20 individuals in each event and the top 12 relays. Walker currently sits unofficially 20th overall. The final list of participants will be released on Sunday evening.
