Sophomore collects first-career honor
NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College women's volleyball sophomore outside hitter/setter Deirdre Wilson (Aptos, Calif./Aptos) has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Volleyball Player of the Week.
Wilson averaged 10.30 assists per set alongside 1.10 kills, a .333 hitting percentage, one service aces, 3.00 digs per set and two blocks for the Lyons in a 2-1 week including a 3-1 victory over Coast Guard in conference play. Against the Bears, Wilson posted her team-leading ninth double-double of the year with 42 assists and 13 digs to help the Lyons defeat Coast Guard for the first time in ten years (Oct. 7, 2003).
In 90 sets played this season, Wilson averages 6.68 assists per set, 1.36 kills, a .235 hitting percentage, 2.20 digs and 0.38 blocks. Wilson ranks sixth in the NEWMAC in assists per set, while helping facilitate the seventh-best offense in the conference at 10.80 kills per set. The Lyons also rank fifth overall in hitting percentage at a .199 clip.
Wheaton (14-11, 4-3 NEWMAC) returns to action on Tuesday, October 22 against Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on the road at 7 p.m.
