GAME ONE:

SCORE: Wheaton 3 - Smith 0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-17)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Claire Cansler ended the match with a game-high 11 kills for Wheaton, which marks the sixth time the junior has ended a match with double-digit kills. Sophomore Nikita Selivan chipped in eight points, while first-year Julia Palomba ended the game with seven. 
  • Sophomore Becca Houghton finished with a match-high 34 assists, which helps move her up the Wheaton record book in career assists. Senior Stephanie Martin also continues to climb the career record book, chipping in 10 digs in the Lyon victory. Cathryn MacGregor led all players with 14 digs. 
  • Selivan and Cansler both ended the match with two blocks for Wheaton. 
  • Smith came out strong in the opening set, earning a 6-1 lead before the Lyons took over and ran away with the set 25-12. 
  • Unforced errors once again hurt the Pioneers in the second set, while Wheaton received solid serving from MacGregor, Houghton and Palomba who combined for six aces. 
  • With the third and deciding set tied at 14-14, Wheaton responded with a 3-0 run that saw kills by MacGregor and Cansler and another Houghton ace. The mini-run shifted the momentum in Wheaton's favor, as the Lyons never let Smith closer than three points the rest of the way.

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Selivan paced Wheaton with a match-high and season-best nine killsMacGregor chipped in eight kills and Cansler finished with seven. 
  • Houghton dished out 28 assists in the win and Martin pulled up a match-high 18 digs. First-year Casey Dinga led the Lyons with two blocks. 
  • Wheaton opened the first set strong with back-to-back aces from Martin, which helped the Lyons capture an 18-12 advantage. The visiting Lions responded with an 11-1 run that handed them a 23-19 lead. Wheaton maintained its composure, closing out the match on a 5-0 run, which featured three straight Houghton aces. 
  • The Lyons returned for the second set with a new fire, allowing Eastern Nazarene just nine points. 
  • The third set was more competitive than the second, but Wheaton took the lead at the start on a Cansler kill and never let go.
