BOSTON, Mass. - Wheaton College sophomore setter Becca Houghton has been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference Second-Team as announced by the league office on Tuessday.
Houghton, who is has played in all 33 of the Lyons matches this season, led the NEWMAC in matches played, as well as assists (989), service aces (97) and matches started (32). Houghton's 97 services aces are the second most by any Division III volleyball player. Houghton also ranks 15th in the nation in aces per set, while ranking 20th in the nation in aces per five-set match.
The Lyons finished the season with its best record since 1997, ending the season with a 24-9 overall record and 7-3 NEWMAC standing. Wheaton earned its first NEWMAC Tournament win since 1998, defeating Clark in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals on Oct. 31, before dropping a heart-breaker to, eventual conference champions, MIT in the semifinals.
