GAME ONE:

SCORE: Wheaton 3 - Goucher 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17)

RECORDS: Wheaton (1-0) - Goucher (0-1)

LOCATION: Haverford, Pa. (Gooding '84 Arena)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Wheaton was led by 12 kills from Claire Cansler, nine from Julia Palomba and eight from Nikita Selivan
  • Becca Houghton ended the match with 35 assists and four digs, while Palomba, Cat MacGregor, and Adara Hamilton led the team with eight digs each. 
  • Greta Coss led Goucher with 11 kills, while Tes DeJaeger finished with 16 assists and Cat Harley pulled up 10 digs. 
  • bench stats were kept, resulting in no play-by-play.

GAME TWO:

SCORE: Wheaton 1 - Hunter 3 (24-26, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17)

RECORDS: Wheaton (1-1) - Hunter (1-0)

LOCATION: Haverford, Pa. (Gooding '84 Arena)

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • The Lyons were led by junior Nikita Selivan who finished the match with nine kills, while senior Claire Cansler ended the contest with eight, and both Julia Palomba and Casey Dinga knocked down six. 
  • Becca Houghton returned to the court and dished out 28 assists, while Cat MacGregor led the team with 27 digs. 
  • Cansler led the Lyons with three block assists with Palmoba picking up two. 
  • Taylor Haiduk and Marlena Budna paced Hunter with a match-high 12 kills, while Miranda Hogan chipped in a match-high 30 assists. 
  • With the opening set tied at 12-12, a Palomba kill gave the lead back to Wheaton, who quickly ran up a 16-12 lead with help from Houghton aces. Hunter slowly inched its way back into the contest, eventually tying the set at 21-21, before closing out the game 26-24. 
  • After falling behind early in the second set, the Lyons clawed their way back with the help of several Hunter attacking errors and more Houghton aces. Maggie Shafer handed Wheaton just its second led of the set with an ace of her own. The lead stuck courtesy of kills from Palomba, Selivan, and Cansler. 
  • The third set saw Hunter cruise ahead to a quick 20-8 lead, before closing out the set 25-20. Like the third set, Hunter held the lead the entire fourth set, earning the match victory.
