BEVERLY, Mass. - On Sunday, December 2, the top senior student-athletes in NCAA Division III New England women's volleyball will compete in the NEWVA Senior Classic All-Star Game and Skills Competition. The event will be held in the Lahue Physical Education Center on the campus of Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. Of those athletes will be Wheaton College volleyball captains Claire Cansler and Cat MacGregor.
Cansler played in all 32 matches for Wheaton, finishing the season ranked seventh in the NEWMAC in hitting percentage (.299) and eighth in kills (287). The senior ended the season with a career-best 287 kills which took her career total to 975.
MacGregor was a dual threat for the Lyons this season, starting the year as a libero before moving back to the net as an outside hitter. MacGregor played in all 32 matches for Wheaton, finishing second in the NEWMAC in digs (473), third in digs per set (4.38), and fourth in services aces (53).
Wheaton ended the season with a 22-10 overall record and 5-5 conference standings, making it to the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament. Wheaton opened the year with a 13 game winning streak which is tied for third-best in school history.
The schedule for the day will include the following:
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Check-in and warmup
10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. Knockout and Queen of the Court competitions
11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Lunch
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Senior Classic All-Star event followed by awards
