Volleyball Falls to Rowan; Defeats Kings (Pa.)

GAME ONE: Wheaton 0 - Rowan 3 (14-25, 20-25, 23-25)

RECORDS: Wheaton (16-11) - Rowan (15-14)

LOCATION: Glassboro, NJ

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • The Wheaton College volleyball team returned to action on Saturday morning, falling to Rowan 3-0 on the road, despite a fairly even contest statistically. 
  • Adara Hamilton led the Lyons with 10 kills, while Julia Palomba chipped in nine and first-year Bailey Madrzyk finished with seven. 
  • Hannah George picked up 26 assists in the contest, while Ariana Rajaee led the team with 16 digs. 
  • Wheaton fell behind early in the first set but managed to recover, coming back to tie the contest at 6-6. A Rowan ace handed the Profs the lead back for good at 9-8. 
  • A strong offensive front once again put Rowan ahead early, but Wheaton was able to chip away at the deficit, tying the set six times. Similar to the first set, a Prof ace shifted the momentum in Rowan's favor, earning them the win. 
  • Errors were a problem for both sides in the third set, making it hard for either team to find a rhythm. After several back and forths, it was Rowan who was able to come out with the win, finishing the match on a Wheaton mistake.

GAME TWO: Wheaton 3 - Kings (Pa.) 1 (21-25, 25-7, 25-22, 25-19)

RECORDS: Wheaton (17-11) - Kings (20-6)

LOCATION: Glassboro, NJ

THE RUNDOWN:  

  • Wheaton returned to the court later in the day, taking on King's (Pa.) with the Lyons earning a 3-1 victory. 
  • Palomba led all players with 17 kills, while Madrzyk finished with 11 and Hamilton with 10. 
  • George was credited with 37 assists in the victory, while Hamilton finished with five aces and 10 digs, as well as a team-high two blocks. 
  • Wheaton started the first set with a kill from Palomba, but King's rallied back and despite finishing with a negative hitting percentage, won the set. 
  • The Lyons left nothing to chance in the second set, only allowing the Monarchs seven points. Wheaton started the set on a 10-0 run, before putting together a 15-7 string. 
  • The third set was far more competitive, but with the set tied at 16-16, Wheaton used a Palomba kill to recapture the lead en route to the set victory. 
  • Wheaton opened the fourth set with an 8-0 run, but King's (Pa.) managed to fight its way back in, coming within a point at 20-19 later in the set. Wheaton held on, ending the contest with five straight points.
